Thanks for visiting Cute Yute, a new handmade baby shop!
My name is Emily. I am a 26-year-old mother living in Des Moines, IA. Married to a solid guy named Ian that I met while attending Iowa State University. I studied athletic training and followed up my undergraduate work with a massage therapy education.
Although I love the world of sports medicine, I have chosen to spend my time at home with my daughter. The life of an athletic trainer typically involves late nights, early mornings and travel just as the life of a parent does. I do plan to continue practicing part-time but for now, I’ll watch Ivy grow and challenge all things, including me.
I’ve developed a few random skills over the years. The essential skill, being the ability to sew. Growing up my mother quilted and embroidered, mostly crazy quilts – very fitting, so she taught me a thing or two along the way. The second skill I’ll be implementing with Cute Yute is my determination to only pay discounted prices for goods. I genuinely enjoy hunting down the best price, fighting through a blowout sale and applying coupon codes at the register.
I love the sentiment that goes into a handmade item but unfortunately, I have often found myself stirring clear of most crafted baby goodies because of the price. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for people making a profit. I just know that there are other moms and friends of soon to be mothers, that think along the same lines as myself – I love that, but I won’t spend that.
In an attempt to create some “me time” while parenting and seeing a need for middle ranged pricing, Cute Yute popped itself up. After asking social media its opinion, I felt there was enough support to start something up.
So for now, I’ll be working on burp cloths, swaddle blankets, headbands, some skirts and anything else I feel drawn to create!
